Account Manager

Reports To: Benefits Division Manager

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  

This position enhances sales by supporting the producer with the pre-sale process, installation of new and renewal business, and day to day servicing of new and existing employee benefits accounts.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Pre-Sale: Assists Benefits Producer in data gathering, marketing, proposals and presentation data adhering to department and agency procedures/workflow.
  2. Quoting: Analyzes group’s current premium, plan design and experience figures as necessary. Consults with Producer and General Agent to develop appropriate quote. Obtains any missing information needed to complete quote from group contact. Performs data entry and prepares accurate quote. Prepares formal proposals and spread sheets as needed by Producer.  Makes any necessary changes requested by Producer. Occasionally, visits employer with Producer when requested.
  3. Post-Sale: Processes new business which includes reviewing group applications, enrollment forms, requesting missing information from client contact, following-up, and submits and tracks through underwriting and issue. Follows-up with carrier for all policy documents and reviews for accuracy of rates and plan design sold.  Resolves errors immediately with carrier.  Schedule and conduct plan administrator meeting to review administration kit on new business greater than $5,000 in annual revenue.
  4. Sales Liaison/Communications:  Communicates to clients available employee benefit products, plan variations, rates, procedures, alternate funding arrangements and underwriting requirements for currently marketed products with health insurance carriers we write business with.
  5. Enrollment Materials: Organize and coordinate all materials needed to enroll a group (master application, enrollment forms, summary of benefits).  Responsible for developing customized materials when necessary.
  6. Employee Meetings:  Responsible for organizing and conducting employee meetings to explain summary of benefits and/or to promote and sell voluntary products. 
  7. Renewal processing:  Following division procedures, contacts client well in advance of renewal date to prepare for upcoming renewal.  This includes, but is not limited to, gathering census data, discussing client objectives/expectations, and trends in market.  Requests renewal from carrier, delivers renewal when necessary, offers alternatives with incumbent carriers, markets with other carriers, and follows through post renewal date. 
  8. Add Issue Development: In conjunction with Dept Manager, analyze in-force business and creates plan to solicit new business and revenues. Identify add issue opportunities through the use of service calls, client contact, as well as in conjunction with annual renewal.  Refer clients to other agency departments for cross selling opportunities.
  9. Client Management:  Services existing customers with emphasis on account development and retention. Responds to customer’s problems by gathering necessary information, researching with carrier any billing, claims, or underwriting issue.  Draws accurate conclusion about the problem and resolves, when possible, on behalf of client.  Educates client contact about any aspects of the plan that are not clearly understood.   Maintains all client activity in the agency management system.
  10. Leverage existing relationships with producers and clients and provide easy to use service to employees, employers and producers.
  11. Maintains industry and product knowledge through participation in continuing education courses.  Seeks professional designations such as CEBS, CLU, etc.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. College degree or equivalent work experience preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Extensive background and understanding of Employee Benefits/Group Insurance products.  Familiarity with applicable state and government laws, insurance industry and market trends.
  3. Life and Health license in NY and/or NJ required.
  4. Detail oriented, organized, and ability to multi-task.
  5. Highly motivated with strong selling and negotiation skills.
  6. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  7. Knowledge of computer systems and operations is required, specifically MS Office Suite.  Fluent in Excel is mandatory.
  8. Local travel required.

Working Hours:  minimum of 37.5 hours/week required.
